Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 1 oz Silver Steer Wrestling Round shows two iconic Texas symbols. The Lone Star is prominently featured over a detailed, topographical map of Texas in the background.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2024 Texas Mint Silver Steer Wrestling Rounds, a cowboy is depicted wrestling a bull. The term “take the bull by the horns” comes from this very act of cattle wrestling, as illustrated in this design.
History
The closure of the open range in the late 19th century, due to the advent of barbed wire and increased settlement, forced significant changes in Texas ranching. Ranchers had to adapt to managing smaller, fenced properties and implementing more intensive grazing practices. This period also saw the introduction of improved cattle breeds, such as Herefords and Angus, which gradually replaced the iconic Texas Longhorn.
