Obverse

The obverse of the 2024 1/4 oz Silver Bounty Coins features King Charles III. This first-generation portrait for the Pitcairn Islands, a British Overseas Territory, shows the king in left-profile without a crown, designed by Glyn Davies.

The reverse side showcases the HMS Bounty. During its maiden voyage, the Bounty had a crew of 42 men. Of them, 22 joined Fletcher Christian in the mutiny, 18 stayed loyal to Lieutenant Bligh, and two remained neutral.

History

The HMS Bounty embarked on its initial voyage in 1787. The famous mutiny happened on April 28, 1789, while the ship was traveling from Tahiti to the West Indies, near Tofua Island in today’s Tonga. Fletcher Christian, the Master’s Mate, led the mutiny. Christian and eight other mutineers, along with six Tahitian men, 12 Tahitian women, and a child, eventually settled on the remote Pitcairn Island in January 1790. They burned the Bounty to avoid detection and to prevent anyone from leaving.
