Obverse

The obverse design of the 2024 Colorized NATB Delaware Silver Coin shows Canadian geese in Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge. The Lenape people called this area Canaresse, meaning at the thickets. The English name comes from the Dutch Boombjes Hoeck, which means little-tree point.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2024 1 oz Colorized Delaware Silver Coin features the common design for the series, which includes an American bald eagles head at the center of an eight-pointed star, with eight arrowheads between each point of the star.

History

Lenape society was matrilineal, meaning descent and inheritance were traced through the mother’s line. They were organized into three main clans: Turtle (Unami), Turkey (Unalachtigo), and Wolf (Munsee). Each clan had specific responsibilities within the community and played important roles in ceremonies and decision-making processes.
