Obverse

The obverse of the 2024 Reverse Proof Mexican Gold Libertad features the modern coat of arms of Mexico, surrounded by 10 historic versions of the seal. The central design depicts a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, engaged in a battle with a serpent. The surrounding historic seals showcase the evolution of this emblem, including the 1524 Codex Mendoza design from the Aztec Empire.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 2024 1 oz Reverse Proof Gold Libertad Coin, youll find the image of Winged Victory. This angelic figure, inspired by the Greek goddess Nike, is shown holding a laurel wreath in her right hand and broken chains in her left. She stands atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column, with the volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl visible in the background.

History

The Mexican Mint produces both proof and reverse proof versions of the Gold Libertad coin. Since 2004, traditional proofs have been available in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz weights. In contrast, the reverse proofs, available since 2018, are limited to 1 oz and 1/2 oz weights.
