The 2006 release of American Gold Eagles saw a notable surge in demand, particularly for the 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle. Interestingly, while demand for the four weights in the BU range declined, the three fractional weights in the Proof range also experienced a decrease. Notably, the 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle witnessed a significant increase in production, rising from 35,246 coins in 2005 to 47,092 coins in 2006.
