The term “Large Date” refers to the prominent numerals representing the year 1991 on the reverse of the coin.

Obverse

On the obverse side of these 1991 Chinese Silver Pandas, you’ll find a charming portrayal of a seated panda indulging in its bamboo feast. Giant Pandas rely heavily on bamboo for sustenance, with bamboo making up nearly all of their diet. Their unique adaptations, including a pseudo-thumb formed from an enlarged wrist bone, aid in efficiently gripping and stripping bamboo.

This awe-inspiring structure, constructed in the early 15th century, serves as the central building within the Temple of Heaven Complex, a significant Taoist religious site in Beijing.

While they may be active during any time of the day, Giant Pandas are predominantly crepuscular and nocturnal, meaning they are most active during dawn, dusk, and throughout the night. This behavior helps them avoid the midday heat and potential competition with other large mammals.
