History

In 1913, James Earle Fraser joined a select group of American artists tasked with redesigning US coinage. His design for the US nickel followed the contributions of Bela Lyon Pratt and Augustus Saint-Gaudens in revitalizing the US Eagle denominations. Fraser’s work predated the famous designs by Adolph A. Weinman and Hermon Atkins MacNeil for American silver coinage.
