Obverse
On the front side of the 2024 Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin, admire the depiction of the Great Pipe Organ, an artwork by Thomas Pesendorfer. This is the third rendition of the pipe organ that graces the Golden Concert Hall, a part of the Musikverein building. Interestingly, the Great Pipe Organ was installed about 40 years after the completion of the Musikverein.
Reverse
Turning the coin over, the reverse side showcases a captivating arrangement of musical instruments. Crafted by the talented Pesendorfer, this design highlights a prominent cello at the center, flanked by two violins. In the backdrop, you’ll notice a bassoon, a harp, and a French horn.
History
Every year, the Austrian Mint releases the Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins. When the series began in 1989, it offered options of 1 oz gold and 1/4 oz gold coins. In 1991, the 1/10 oz gold coin was added, followed by the 1/2 oz gold coin in 1994. It took another two decades until the arrival of the 1/25 oz gold coin, completing the remarkable Gold Philharmonic range.
