Design

Both the obverse and reverse of the 1 Kilo Sun Stone Silver Stacker showcase the mesmerizing sun stone design. A replica of the original unearthed in 1790, most experts believe it features the face of the solar deity, Tonatiuh, enclosed in the symbol of movement known as llin. The central ring displays 20 glyphs representing the 20 days of the Aztec calendar, while two fire serpents grace the outer border. Inscriptions included on the edge of the stacker include AG 999, and 1000G.

History

The Aztec sun stone was discovered in 1790 during repairs of the Mexico City Cathedral. It was then displayed there until 1885 when it was moved to its current home in the National Anthropology Museum. This incredible piece, measuring 12 feet in diameter and 39 inches thick, is considered one of the most renowned Mexica sculptures. Despite its creation between 1502 and 1520, the true meaning of the sun stone continues to be a subject of interpretation and study by scholars and archaeologists more than 200 years later.
