History

The origins of Merlin’s name are somewhat unclear, but it is believed to be of Welsh origin. The name may derive from the Welsh words “mer” and “lin,” meaning “sea fortress” or “sea lake.” Alternatively, some scholars suggest that the name may have originally been “Myrddin,” which is similar in sound to the Welsh word for “sea fortress.”
