Obverse

Reverse

The reverse of 2023 1 oz Gold Eagle Coins, introduced in mid-2021, features a fresh take on the American bald eagle, designed by Jennie Norris. The eagle’s head is displayed in left-profile relief, capturing its intense focus as it gazes into the distance.

History

In 1986, the American Gold Eagle Coins were introduced in both BU and Proof versions, featuring all four weights 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold. The proof fractional-ounce series was subsequently launched in 1987 and 1988. Originally graced with Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty on the obverse and a family of bald eagles on the reverse, the design underwent a captivating transformation in mid-2021, thanks to artist Jennie Norris.
