The obverse of these 2020 American Silver Eagle Coins features the historic Walking Liberty design, created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916. Liberty walks from right to left, with the sun on the horizon, oak and laurel branches in hand, and the American flag draped over her shoulders.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2020 1 oz Silver Eagles, the heraldic eagle of the United States takes center stage, designed by Robert Scot in 1792. The eagle clutches the national heraldic shield, arrows, and an olive branch.
History
The West Point Mint is predominantly responsible for the production of American Silver Eagles. In 2020, the San Francisco Mint took on a larger supplemental role in producing Silver Eagles as well. This was largely the result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for the US Mint to strike more coins to meet demand, while also dealing with lower staffing and spacing requirements in the workplace.
