All 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagles in this series are in PF70 condition, considered flawless with full mint luster. The coins may also have random labels of UCAM or DCAM, reserved for proof coins with clear, mirrored backgrounds and frosted design sets. Please note that while BGASC guarantees a PF70 grade, the specific year of issue or label within the plastic slab is not guaranteed. The coin you receive is based on availability in our warehouse during order preparation.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagle features the timeless design of Walking Liberty, created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916. This design was initially used on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947.
Reverse
On the reverse, John Mercanti refined the heraldic eagle design for this coin series. The eagle holds arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, positioned behind the national shield.
History
From 1995 to 2004, the United States Mint imposed a mintage cap on the Proof Silver Eagle, responding to fluctuating demand. However, in 2005, the Mint lifted these restrictions after a decade, allowing for more flexible production. Since its debut in 1986, the Proof Silver Eagle experienced a production pause only in 2009 during the Great Recession. The United States Mint redirected silver blanks to bullion coin production due to surging demand and prices. Unlike the Proof Silver Eagle, the Mint is legally obligated to meet demand for bullion Silver Eagles.
