The 2 oz Silver Cleopatra Ultra High Relief Round from the Elemetal Mint is the first release of the Egyptian Gods series, paying tribute to one of the most intriguing rulers in history: Cleopatra, the last active pharaoh of Ptolemaic Egypt. The Cleopatra Round is a serious piece of investment bullion made to the highest production standards for quality and purity, and features a stunning design by the amazingly talented artist and medallic sculptor Heidi Wastweet.

The obverse of each Cleopatra Silver Round features a breath-taking likeness of Cleopatra herself, sculpted in ultra high relief to create a 3-dimensional illusion that she is leaning right out of the field of the round. Behind her to the left is an incused “Eye of Horus” symbolizing protection, royal power and good health. To Cleopatra’s right is her cartouche – the name “Cleopatra” written in hieroglyphics inside of an oval with a horizontal line at one end (indicating that it was a name of royal lineage).

Ancient historical texts are generally in agreement that the proud and defiant Cleopatra chose to end her own life at age 39 by coaxing a poisonous Egyptian snake called an “asp” to bite her in brazen protest to the humiliation following her defeat and loss of power in the final war of the Roman Republic. On this 2 oz silver portrait of Cleopatra, the asp slithers quietly over her shoulder and down the front of her chest. To the left of Cleopatra sits a bowl of figs which was rumoured to be the vehicle in which the snake was transported to her chambers.

Centered on the reverse of each Cleopatra 2 oz Ultra High Relief Silver Round is the Goddess Isis whom Cleopatra touted she was the reincarnation of. Isis sits atop a pedestal adorned with an image of the scarab beetle, a symbol of power in ancient Egyptian mythology. Behind Isis is a great pyramid and hieroglyphics taken from ancient Egyptian papyri featuring writings about Cleopatra. The round’s weight (2 oz), purity (.999) and metal (Ag) are stamped bottom center, flanked by a pattern of lotus reeds blooming in the Nile as can be seen on the outer wall of the Temple of Horus.
